Gautreaux named Stephens County’s 2019 STAR Student

Stephens County names its STAR student.

This week, the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce announced that Monique Gautreaux, a senior at Stephens County High School, is this year’s STAR student.

Gautreaux is the daughter of the late Maria Gautreaux and Raymond and Monica Howard, of Toccoa.

To obtain the 2019 STAR nomination, graduating high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.

As the STAR student, Gautreaux then picks her STAR teacher.

She chose her AP U.S. History teacher, Mrs. Claire Cox Segars.

Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce President Julie Paysen tells WNEG News that the chamber is very proud of both Gautreaux and Segars, and the academic excellence they exemplify at Stephens County High School.

Gautreaux will now represent Stephens County at the Region STAR Student competition.

The Professional Association of Georgia Educators Student Teacher Achievement Recognition Program, or PAGE STAR, program is now in its 61st year, and is sponsored, administered and promoted by the PAGE Foundation.
