Gasaway to Hold Press Conference on

State House District 28 candidate Dan Gasaway plans to hold a press conference in the coming days to address comments recently made by the Banks County Commission Chair.

Gasaway is referring to an article that appeared last week in the Banks County News in which Commission Chair Jimmy Hooper said he was angered by the media coverage of the State House District 28 election and accusations of voter fraud in his county.

Making his comments during the February 12 Banks County Commission meeting, the paper reports Hooper first went after the news media, accusing them of reporting that the County was involved in voter fraud.

WNEG News has never reported Banks County was involved in voter fraud, but did report the Secretary of State’s office has launched an investigation into alleged voter fraud in House District 28.

WNEG News also reported the list of alleged improper voting instances in both Banks and Habersham counties listed in Gasaway’s latest lawsuit.

Hooper said there is not one dishonest person working in Banks County government including poll workers and in the Registrar’s office.

He also charged Superior Court David Sweat ruled in Gasaway’s favor in both hearings because he is a liberal Democrat, and ruled in order to quote, “make a political statement.”

Finally, Hooper accused Gasaway of slander when he questioned in his latest lawsuit whether Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed lived in Banks County.

Gasaway’s lawsuit alleged Speed’s property sits on the Banks/Franklin County line and his house is on the Franklin County side, which is in House District 32.

However, Judge Sweat did rule that Speed lives in Banks County.

Gasaway tells WNEG News a date and time for his press conference will be announced this week.
