Gasaway seeks Carr to open Investigation into the Habersham County BOE

Georgia State Representative Dan Gasaway has asked the Attorney General of Georgia Christopher Carr to assist him in opening an investigation into the Habersham County Board of Education.

Gasaway wrote in a Georgia House of Representatives Guest Editiorial provided to WNEG that he is requesting the investigation into a Gainesville construction company which has employed his Republican primary opponent Chris Erwin.

In the editorial, Gasaway stated, quoting “The primary focus of the investigation is to investigate how much improper influence employees of Carroll Daniel Construction had in procuring construction work at both Woodville and Hazel Grove Elementary schools in Habersham County.”

“Were the construction bid or construction bid conditions manipulated to benefit Carroll Daniel Construction? Was the construction work advertised properly so that all area contractors could compete in a fair manner?” end quote.

Gasaway has asked Carr to assist him in answering the aforementioned questions.

Gasaway continues to suggest that Habersham County School Superintendent Matthew Cooper’s relationship with Chris Erwin, Director of Business Development for Carroll Daniel Construction, should have disqualified Carroll Daniel Construction from consideration to do the work in Habersham County.

Gasaway alleges “It is common knowledge Erwin played a very influential role in Cooper obtaining the position of superintendent in Habersham County. The blatant ethical violations in this matter should be clear to all involved.”

Erwin is Gasaway’s opponent in the Georgia House of Representatives, District 28 Republican Primary in May.

The incumbent state representative states about his opponent “Erwin, who also serves on the Georgia board of Professional Standards Commission is reason enough for Erwin to be disqualified from doing any business with Georgia school systems.”

Carroll Daniel Construction is based in Gainesville, Georgia. In the editorial, Gasaway says another major school construction firm in the area, Bowen and Watson of Toccoa, told him they never saw the Habersham work advertised.
