G-DOT Crews to Begin Work Today on SR145

Beginning this morning, Georgia Department of Transportation crews will begin working to widen the shoulders of an 8-mile stretch of State Route 145.

Crews out of the G-DOT Carnesville office will be in the lanes beginning at 6:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day until the work is completed.

Spokesperson Katie Strickland tells WNEG News the project will begin at State Route 63 in Stephens County and go south to Franklin County.

And she advises motorists using 145 use caution.

“Please people driving down SR145, be mindful of those working in close proximity to the lanes,” she said. “They will have on their safety apparel as they are out there working.”

Crews will be widening each side of 145 by 2 feet.

Strickland says these minor improvements increase safety by giving drivers more asphalt coverage on the edge of the roadway.

“That is going to increase the ability of cars, if they travel off the road a little bit, to have a little more margin to get back on to the roadway,” she said. “And that is going to increase safety. This is also a really good safety project that we’re doing without having to have a contractor come out and do the work.”

The project is being done by G-DOT’s Carnesville area maintenance crews and, weather permitting, has a scheduled completion date of August 31st.
