G-DOT Awards $28-million in Construction Projects

Ten construction projects were awarded to the Northeast Region in June that totaled just over $28 million, and Stephens County is on the list for some of those projects.

CW Matthews Contracting in Gainesville was awarded the contract to resurface State Route 17 in Habersham and Stephens Counties between SR184 and SR365.

The project has an estimated completion date of May 31, 2020.

Additionally, crews will be installing new rumble strips in all six counties in G-DOT District 3, which includes Stephens, Franklin, Hart, Elbert, Madison, and Banks counties.

In Stephens County, rumble strips will go in on the 17 Bypass, Highway 63, and Highway 419.  New rumble strips will also be put in on State Routes 8, 17, 51, and 59 in Franklin County.

The routes and locations were identified by G-DOT District 3 as needing the strips based on crash history.

Rumble strips, a road safety feature used to alert drivers of lane lines, will be upgraded on various roads throughout 11 counties in the Northeast Georgia G-DOT region.

That project was awarded to Southern States Pavement Markings, LLC with an estimated completion date of June 30, 2020.

Additionally, Habersham County will also receive signing and striping upgrades on various county roads. This project was awarded to Roadscape North Florida and totals $155,527.

The project spans 42 miles and includes highway signs, striping, and pavement marking on 15 county roads in Habersham.

June 30, 2020 is the estimated completion date.

G-DOT spokesperson Katie Strickland tells WNEG News additional details and lane closures related to the projects will be announced as construction begins.
