Funeral Services Thursday for Man Killed at Speedway

Funeral services have been set for Thursday at 11 A.M. for Paul Ballenger, Jr. of Royston. Ballenger was killed Saturday evening from injuries suffered at Hartwell Speedway when a car lost control and went over a concrete barrier through a fence and into the pit area. According to the Associated Press, two other people, including a 9-year old was also hurt and taken to nearby hospitals.

A statement on the Hartwell Speedway Facebook page reads “Everyone at Hartwell Speedway ask that you please keep those involved in the tragic accident tonight at the Speedway in your thoughts and prayers. We would also like to thank all those who came to the aide of those injured.”

According to his obituary, Ballenger is survived by two daughters and two sons, including Stephen Ballenger and Jennifer Ballenger of Toccoa, two sisters and three brothers, and 14 grandchildren.

Ginn Funeral Home of Carnesville is in charge of the arrangements. Ballenger was 58 years old.
