Fugitive from North Carolina, gives self up in Toccoa

According to authorities, on Jan. 8, an officer with the Toccoa Police Department was flagged down off of Broad Street.

The officer identified the subject as Reggie Stanberry from Sylva, North Carolina.

According to the officer, Stanberry seemed to be in a paranoid state and told the officer he was tired of running from all the undercover police cars, and that he wanted to turn himself in because he had a warrant from North Carolina.

After checking Stanberry on GCIC, it was determined that he did in fact have warrants from North Carolina, for a parole violation and theft of a motor vehicle.

The vehicle which Stanberry was driving, a 1999 Subaru, was listed stolen.

Stanberry also told officers he didn’t smoke methamphetamine, but he did eat some.

He was arrested, and taken to the Stephens County Hospital for clearance.

He was then transported to the Stephens County Jail.

He was charged in Toccoa with possession of methamphetamine, theft by receiving stolen property in another state, and driving while license suspended.

He is in jail awaiting bond and extradition to North Carolina.
