Friday night chase ends in wreck

According to officials with the Georgia State Patrol, Post 7, a Friday evening incident involving a manhunt near Eastanollee, on Highway 17, ends when the suspect was caught by bloodhounds.

On Friday evening the GSP was holding a highway safety check near Martin.

During the check, an individual failed to stop, or even slow down as he approached the trooper’s.

According to GSP the suspect drove straight through at a high rate of speed disregarding troopers’ commands to slow and stop.

The suspect driver ran through downtown Martin traveling toward Toccoa at high speeds.

The driver then turned onto Yow Mill, in Avalon, in the direction of Hwy 17 bypass, increasing his speed to approximately 100 mph, without stopping, the driver traveled across all four lanes nearly striking vehicles going both north and south.

The chase came to an end on Moore Circle as a trooper continued to hug the rear of the suspect’s vehicle.

The driver lost control and crashed in the front yard of a Moore Circle residence.

Before impact, the driver jumped from the vehicle and ran.

GSP were able to set up a perimeter immediately boxing the suspect in.

Bloodhounds located beside Lee Arrendale State Prison, in Alto, were dispatched to the scene.

Within 30-minutes of the canine team’s arrival, the suspect was located down an embankment hiding in a culvert.

The suspect was arrested after a brief struggle with troopers.

This was his second similar incident in recent weeks.
