Franklin County BOE Nears End to Superintendent Search

In Franklin County, the Board of Education has completed its second round of interviews of candidates for the School Superintendent position.

According to a report in the Franklin County Citizen Newspaper, Board members say they are moving through the process faster than expected, but no date has been set to formally choose the next Superintendent.

Current Superintendent Wayne Randall was notified last fall that his contract would not be renewed for another year.  His last day is May 30.

The Franklin County School Board announced they had received 31 applications from candidates  across the country, including one international candidate.

21 candidates are from Georgia; including the Mayor of Franklin Springs.  Mayor Lee Moore confirmed he did submit his application, but did not say if he was one of those interviewed.

Others candidates are reportedly from Alabama and Florida. The first round of interviews took place the Holiday Inn Express in Lavonia.

No word on when the Board plans to announce its finalists. Once a final candidate is announced, by law they must wait another 14 days before they can appoint the next superintendent.
