Franklin Co. Food Processing Center open for public use

The Franklin County Food Processing Center will be open for public use starting today.

The public may use the center for processing and to gain instruction in safe food processing techniques  from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon each Monday and Thursday beginning today, June 8, through August 3.

Funded by the Franklin County Board of Education, the center is operated by the school system’s agricultural education staff and owned by the City of Lavonia. Patrons will prepare and pack fruit, vegetables and meats, while agriculture teachers handle the processing. Facilities are available for canning in quart cans and glass jars. Metal cans are furnished by the Food Processing Center, and the cost is included in the processing charge and those wanting to use glass must furnish their own jars.

The center is located on Highway 77  across from the former Lavonia Elementary School and those who would like  more information can contact the Franklin County High School at 706-384-4525.
