Francine Reed Concert Tonight in Toccoa

A Georgia Music Hall of Fame singer will appear in Toccoa tonight.

Francine Reed will perform at the Schaefer Center this evening in downtown Toccoa.

Reed’s concert marks the final event in the city’s month long “Flames Fest” event that has paid honor and tribute to the Famous Flames.

Main Street Toccoa Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said that the city is excited to welcome Reed to the Schaefer Center for tonight’s show.

“Francine Reed is a world-renowned singer, a blues singer, and has been performing for many years, not just here in the Atlanta area, but around the country and overseas as well,” said Crosby. “She has sung with Lyle Lovett and others over the years and has created her own following.”

Crosby went on to say that Reed does have a bit of a connection to Toccoa.

“She sings some of Ida Cox’s songs,” said Crosby.

Ida Cox was a Toccoa native who was a vaudeville performer and became one of the pioneers of the blues genre of music.

Tonight’s show starts at 7 p.m. in the Schaefer Center on the corner of Broad and Doyle streets in downtown Toccoa.

Doors open at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce or at Toccoa City Hall.

Partial funding for this concert comes from the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Georgia Council for the Arts Vibrant Communities grant.
