Football season starts tonight

A new football season starts tonight for most area high school football teams.  The Stephens County High School’s Indians will head down the road to Carnesville to take on the Franklin County Lions in a non-region game.  Stephens County has not lost to the Lions since 2009.  Both teams will have new head coaches on the sidelines—Wesley Tankersley for Stephens County and Paul Sutherland for Franklin County.

Indian Linebackers Coach Kirk Rogers was our guest on the “Crunch Time” radio show last night, and he said his defense will face a Franklin County offense that likes to run the ball.

Kick-off from Ed Bryant Stadium in Carnesville is set for 7:30 tonight.

Coverage on 93.1 FM and AM 630 WNEG starts at 6:30 p.m. with the Indian Road Show.

Coach’s Corner starts at 7 p.m. and live pre-game coverage from the stadium starts at 7:15 p.m.

In addition to Stephens County-Franklin County, other games on tonight’s schedule include: Habersham Central hosting Dawson County, Hart County at Elbert County, Commerce hosting West Hall, and Banks County hosting Jackson County.  Other Region 8-AAAA teams in action tonight include Madison County hosting Cedar Shoals, Oconee County hosting Jefferson, and North Oconee at Putnam County.

Saturday, Rabun County travels down to Ga. Southern College to play Bremen.
