Fire Chief Ayers retires, Haslup named Chief

Toccoa Fire Chief Tommy Ayers has announced his retirement from the City of Toccoa, Georgia.

Ayers submitted his formal retirement letter on January 2, 2018.

His last day with the Toccoa Fire Department will be January 11, 2018.

Chief Ayers has been employed with the Toccoa Fire Department since 1978 when he was hired as a Firefighter.

He has served as Toccoa Fire Chief since 2007.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse stated in a press release that, “We appreciate Chief Ayers’ service to the City for four decades.  Tommy had a wonderful career with the Toccoa Fire Department moving through the ranks to become Chief.  Forty years with the same Fire Department is something special.  We are proud of Tommy and wish him well in retirement.”

Morse continued to state that “during his time as Chief, Ayers accomplished many goals that lead to improved fire protection of the community and achieved a Class 3 ISO rating.”

Morse added that “the City of Toccoa has strong leadership within each department and that will certainly continue in the Fire Department.  I am proud to announce that Jeff Haslup will be our next Fire Chief effective January 12, 2018.”

Jeff Haslup has been working for the Toccoa Fire Department for over thirty-five years.

He has worked his way through the ranks beginning as a Firefighter in 1982.

As Assistant Fire Chief, Haslup has been working side by side with Chief Ayers for the last two years preparing for this day.
