Fifth Movie Shot in Toccoa Wraps

Another movie shoot in Toccoa is in the can.

Filming wrapped up late Monday night in downtown Toccoa for the movie, “When We Last Spoke.”

The film is based on a novel by Marci Henna and is about two estranged sisters in Fireside, Texas, their quirky childhood, and their attempts to reconcile by remembering the past.

This was the fifth movie shot in Toccoa-Stephens County over the past two and a half years and Chamber president Julie Paysen said everything went very smoothly even though filming was primarily going on in downtown Toccoa.

Paysen says this is the first time that ReelWorks Studios has been in Toccoa.

“We first met with them early on and tey had not yet seen our community,” she said. “But one of the crew members, Rodney Eldridge had been on three of the previous movies (shot here) before and he told them, ‘Y’all have got to see Toccoa-Stephens County.’ And we are grateful that he said that because that the leadership team to Toccoa to see what it was all about and what opportunities we had here. And it has turned into a very lucrative opportunity for our community.”

Toccoa-Stephens County is one of 600 communities in the State listed as a Camera Ready Community with the Georgia Film and TV Production division of the Georgia Department of Economic Affairs.

So to have had five movies shot in the county over such a relatively short time period could be considered unusual.

But Paysen says it would not have happened without the support and cooperation of the entire community.

“The big thing is that our community is so supportive of the movie industry thus far; very accomodating and helpful and excited. We can sense that buzz in our community. It’s been a great thing over the last two and half years. So, we are very grateful and always looking forward to the next opportunity,” Paysen noted.

As Chamber president, Paysen is the liaison for production companies looking for locations for their next project.

Paysen said she is always on the lookout for future projects from producers, writers and production studios.

“They have rights to different scripts that they may have had sitting on the shelf for years,” she explained. “So when they see a setting that may be condusive to that script, it just kind of comes alive. So, we’ve had those conversations a number of times. So, I’m looking forward to what’s down the road.”
