Fatal Accident Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Injured

Last Wednesday, the Georgia State Patrol, Post 7, responded to an accident that claimed the life of Barbara Shirley, of Toccoa, and injured two-year-old Brayleigh Nally, of Toccoa.

The single-vehicle accident occurred on Oak Valley Road around 2:25 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, when Shirley failed to maintain her lane, crossed the road and crashed into a tree.

According to the crash report issued by the GSP, Shirley told Troopers before she died, that she had looked into the backseat to take care of her granddaughter Brayleigh and when she looked back forward she had driven off the roadway.

Brayleigh sustained facial abrasions, and drifted in and out of consciousness; she was then Life Flighted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow, March 27, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Garrison and the Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home tomorrow from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.

Shirley was 55.
