Family displaced from AirBnb after Fire in Habersham County

In Habersham County, a family renting a house through Air BnB had to look for another place to stay over Christmas after a fire destroyed their original Air BnB.

It happened just after midnight on Tuesday, December 22, on Turkey Crest Drive near the Habersham/Rabun County line.

According to Chad Black, Habersham County Emergency Services Director, Habersham 911 received a call reporting a structure fire at 520 Turkey Crest Drive.

Fire stations from Habersham and Tallulah Falls responded.

“Engine 17, Ladder 9, Medic 9, Captain 1, Battalion 1 and Tallulah Falls Engine 7 long with LACI Fire responded,” Black said.

When they arrived, they found a 1,200 sq. ft. structure fully engulfed in flames.

All of the occupants, two adults, and two children, managed to get out safely.

“Due to the amount of fire, firefighters went into defense mode of operations in extinguishing the fire from the exterior,” he said.

The family renting the Air BNB told firefighters their baby started crying and when they went to check on the child they saw the fire burning across one section of the cabin.

Black said the blaze appears to have started in the porch area but so far, they have not determined an exact cause.

The family, he said, was able to find another place to stay for the night so Red Cross was not needed.

Black said it took about three hours to put out the fire and fire personnel and all units returned to service at 03:30 Tuesday morning.
