Erwin Waiting to Make Decision on Whether He Will Debate Gasaway

Republican Candidate for State House District 28 Representative Chris Erwin says he has not decided yet whether to participate in a public forum prior to the April Special Primary Election.

Erwin made a campaign stop in Toccoa Tuesday evening for a meet and greet with voters. WNEG News was there and asked him if he had made any decision on whether he was willing to take part in a public forum with Dan Gasaway.

“What we’ve got is we are in a legal challenge and an appeal with the lawsuit brought by Dan,” he said. “So, at this time I need to meet with my legal team so we can make a decision whether we can attend one of those and we haven’t done that at this point in time to determine that.”

Erwin did not say when he and his legal team would make that decision.

Erwin is appealing a Judge’s decision to throw out the results of the December 4 election after finding four of the votes cast in Habersham County were illegal.

His attorney filed a notice of intent to appeal with the State Supreme Court on February 8, but no date can be set for oral arguments until the full transcript of the January hearing in Banks County Superior Court is completed and sent to the high court.

WNEG News has learned that process could take until well after the April 9th election.
