The Stephens County Development Authority kicked off monthly Work-Based Learning Student of The Month program for the 2023-24 school year by recognizing Aurora Elrod as the August WBL Student of the Month.

Elrod is a senior at SCHS, and works at ASI Southeast in Eastanollee. She is a dual enrollment student at North Georgia Technical College and plays on the SCHS Softball team.

During a recognition ceremony for Elrod, ASI Production Manager Stephen Wallace said “I wish I had more employees as efficient and eager to work as Aurora. Even though she is only with us part time each week, she gives us full time effort and output on the production floor.’

Work-Based Learning is a program that allows high-school students to gain experience outside of the classroom and often in a business or industry related to their career pathway.

For two years, SCDA has partnered with Stephens County High School’s WBL program to recognize a high school student every month that is demonstrating tremendous work ethic not only in their workplace, but in their school and extracurricular activities as well.  Students are nominated by their employers, teachers, & work-based learning coordinators.

Once the student of the month is selected SCDA surprises them at work and presents them with gift cards and a yard sign for their employer to display. Bulldog Carwash is partnering with SCDA as a sponsor for the third year in a row by donating free carwashes to
the students.

If you are interested in sponsoring a WBL student of the month please contact SCDA at 706-886-4242.
