Election: State-Mandated Risk Limiting Audit Completed

Stephens County Elections Supervisor Bruce Carlisle reports that the state-mandated Risk Limiting Audit for elections with state or federal offices was conducted on Wednesday, March 20.

The Georgia Secretary of State’s office randomly selects the ballot batches to be audited by the actual rolling of the dice, which was done on Tuesday, March 19, at the State Capitol where the public was invited to attend and participate.

Republican votes cast in the March 12 Presidential Preference Primary were identified by the Secretary of State as the ballots to be audited.

Stephens County elections personnel were notified the evening of Tuesday, March 19, and advised of their assigned ballot batches based upon the results of the dice roll.

Carlisle said that four poll workers were assigned to the audit under the supervision of office staff.

Democratic ballots were first removed from the selected batches and that number was verified based on the data collected from the electronic results of the election.

Each Republican paper ballot was then passed from one poll worker to the next and, as the ballot was handed to them, each poll worker read aloud the name of the candidate for whom the ballot had been cast.

In total, 220 ballots were audited and the count was one hundred percent identical to the electronic vote totals previously recorded.
