Election Day is tomorrow for Martin and Toccoa residents

Advance In-Person voting for the Toccoa and Martin municipal elections came to a close Friday after 3 weeks of early voting.

For the Toccoa elections, as of close of voting Friday, 479 people had voted in person, there are 7 provisional ballots, 42 absentee ballots were requested and mailed out, and 31 of them have been returned.

In Martin, 17 people voted in person, with no provisional ballots and no absentee ballots requested.

Stephens County Election Supervisor Bruce Carlisle spoke with WNEG News on Friday and said he would encourage everyone else to get out and vote on Tuesday, but reminded residents that only residents of Toccoa and Martin are eligible to vote in the elections, and county residents will not be able to cast a vote in these elections. He said that there has been some confusion from people with Toccoa mailing addresses, but who are not living within the city limits of Toccoa.

He said that voters who come in to vote who are not residents of the city of toccoa or the town of Martin will not show up as eligible to vote in the election computer systems, and said people can check ahead of time at Toccoa City Hall, or check with the elections office.

Carlisle reminded everyone that voting tomorrow, Nov. 7, willl not take place at the Historic Courthouse, but instead, at City Hall for Toccoa voters, and the Community Center for Martin voters.

He then talked about how election results would be posted, and stated that municipal election results are not made available on the Secretary of State’s website.

WNEG News will also be providing up-to-the-minute coverage of election night results.

Carlisle also said that residents can drop off absentee ballots at the Historic Courthouse from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Nov. 6, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day tomorrow, Nov. 7.

Carlisle said that early voting was uneventful, and the Elections office is hoping for a problem-free election day.
