Election day is today

The November General Election is today in Stephens County.

Beginning at 7 a.m., residents of Stephens County will come to the Stephens County Senior Center, located on Rose Lane in Toccoa, to cast ballots until polls close at 7 p.m.

Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran anticipates around 4,500 ballots to be cast during the 12-hour voting period.

According to Cochran as of Monday morning 449 mail in, absentee paper ballots had been returned to his office.

On the November General Election Ballot voters will select their candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Commissioner of Agriculture, Commissioner of Agriculture, Commissioner of Insurance, State School Superintendent, Commissioner of Labor, Public Service Commissioner, U.S. Representative in the 116th Congress from the 9th Congressional District of Georgia; Proposed Constitutional Amendments, and two Proposed Statewide Referenda.

Cochran reminds those wishing to vote today that all voting will take place at the Senior Center.

And in order to vote, you must bring with you a valid photo I.D.

According to the Secretary of State’s Office website a valid I.D. is any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free ID Card issued by your county registrar’s office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services; A Georgia Driver’s License, even if expired; A valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this state; A valid U.S. passport ID; A valid U.S. Military photo ID; Or A valid tribal photo ID.
