Election 2024 Update for March 7

The qualifying period for the May 21 General Primary/Nonpartisan election continues today.

The qualifying period, as set by state law, began Monday, and will continue from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until noon tomorrow. 

All candidates who will be running for one of the open seats included on the ballot must complete qualifying and remit the qualifying fee for that seat.

Locally, qualifying for the Democratic Party will take place at Black Law Offices, located at 141 Savannah Street W., Suite B, in Toccoa.  

Qualifying for the Republican Party in Stephens County will take place at the offices of Bross, McAllister & Williams, LLC, located at 268 N. Broad Street in Toccoa.

Qualifying for Non-Partisan positions will take place at the Historic Courthouse, located at 37 W. Tugalo Street in Toccoa.

As of the end of the day yesterday, only three additional candidates qualified for the locally-relevant races, with Mark Marsteller qualifying for Stephens County Commission Post 3, running as a Republican, Pam Hill qualified for the Board of Education District 3 Post 2 seat, running as a Republican, and incumbent Chris Erwin qualifying to run as a Republican for reelection to his seat as State House Representative for District 32.

In other election news, the latest voter counts in the Presidential Preference Primary in Stephens County, including votes cast through the end of voting on March 6, a total of 2,06 voters have cast Advance in-person ballots, 240 absentee ballots have been mailed to locally-registered voters, and 177 absentee ballots have been returned. There is 1 provisional ballot recorded.
