Eight Indians Named to Region 8-AAA All-Region Tennis Team

The Stephens County High School Lady Indians and Indians tennis teams had eight players selected to the Region 8-AAA All-Region Team.  

The Lady Indians had four girls chosen:  Maddie McGee – 2nd team all region singles, Kara Jones & Ellen Aakerman Broddvall – 2nd team all region doubles; and Nyleigh Hutto – honorable mention all region singles.

The Indians had 4 boys chosen: Rusty Spencer – 1st team all region singles; Gavin Wilkinson & Clayton Jones – 2nd team all region doubles; and Jaron Jones – honorable mention all region singles.

The Stephens County High School boys and girls tennis teams ended their 2024 seasons with losses in the sweet sixteen round of the state playoffs.  The Indians lost to Coahulla Creek by a match score of 0-3.  The Tribe finishes with an overall record of 11-9.  The Lady Indians lost to perennial powerhouse & defending state champion Wesleyan by a match score of 0-5. The Maidens end their season with a 15-4 record.

In other High School sports news, The Stephens County girls soccer team lost in the 2nd round of the state playoffs last night at Dawson County.  The Lady Indians fell behind 5 to 0 by halftime to the Lady Tigers, and eventually lost by the final score of 6 to 1.  This was the 5th consecutive season the Lady Indians soccer team has made the state playoffs.
