Edward C. Gambrell Jr. Wound Care Center Celebrating 10-year Anniversary

The Edward C. Gambrell Jr. Wound Care Center of Stephens County Hospital has been celebrating its 10th year during the month of February, and Medical Director Dr. Kalpesh Mistry met with WNEG Radio recently to talk about the facility.

He talked about the number of patients served, some traveling from other counties and talked about what type of patients he Center serves.

He explained how to arrange to take advantage of the services offered at the Wound Care Clinic.

According to Center promotional materials, the Wound Care Center provides specialized treatment for chronic or non-healing wounds, which are defined as sores or wounds that have not significantly improved from conventional treatments. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins, and immobility, non-healing wounds lead to lower quality of life and may lead to amputations. When wounds persist, a specialized approach is required for healing. Typically, a wound that does not respond to normal medical care within 30 days is considered a problem or chronic wound.

With the state-of-the-art treatments available at the Wound Care Center, including debridement, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, dressing selection, special shoes, and patient education, people with non-healing and chronic wounds now have a place to turn. The Wound Care Center uses an interdisciplinary model of care, including infectious-disease management, physical therapy, occupational therapy, laboratory evaluation, nutritional management, pain management, diabetic education, radiology testing, and debridement to address total patient health.
