Early voting starts tomorrow for District 28 State Rep. Re-Run election

Tomorrow marks the beginning of the early voting period for the December 4 Re-run Election in Stephens County.

In the May Primary re-run, District 28 State Representative Dan Gasaway is vying against Republican Candidate Chris Erwin.

Erwin originally won by just 67 votes; however, days after the election results were certified, Gasaway filed a lawsuit in Superior Court claiming dozens of voters in Habersham County had been given wrong ballots in the May 22 Primary Election.

The election results were thrown out after a Superior Court Judge ruled the evidence presented by Gasaway’s attorney to be sufficient to call for a new election.

As part of the ruling, in order to vote in the May 22 Primary re-run voters must have polled the Republican ballots, have been given an improper ballot and those who were eligible on May 22 and who at the time of this election continue to be eligible. If, someone who has since moved out of the district, then they are not qualified to vote in the re-run.

Also excluded, are those who voted on the Democratic ballot in May, anyone who has been convicted of a felony since the May 22 election, and those who registered to vote after the May 22 Primary.

The early voting period will run until Friday, November 30.

All early voting will be held at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office in the Stephens County Government Annex Building on Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa.
