Early Voting Starts Today in Stephens Co.

Voters can start casting ballots today in the special election to pick someone to serve the remainder of the unexpired term of the late Harold Andrews on the Stephens County Commission.

Stephens County Registrar Theresa Kelley said early voting gets underway today downstairs in the StephensCountyGovernmentBuilding in downtown Toccoa.

“It begins today at 8 a.m. and will go to 5 p.m. on March 14,” said Kelley.  “We are here from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  You need your picture ID.”

Voters will elect either Michelle Grafton or Ralph Stowe to serve the remainder of Andrews’ term on the commission, which runs through December 31.

Both Grafton and Stowe are running as Republicans in the special election.

Kelley said that those who wish to request a paper, mail-in absentee ballot can also do so right now.

“We have already sent out several of them at this point in time,” said Kelley.  “If you want to get an absentee ballot, call and I can send you the application.”

Paper, mail-in absentee ballots can be requested through the close of business on March 14.

They must be returned by 7 p.m. on Election Night, March 18.

Those who do not vote either during the early voting period or by a paper absentee ballot will have to go to the polls on Election Day, March 18.

Election Day voting will take place at the Stephens County Senior Center on Rose Lane.
