Early Voting For December 4 Run-off Races Should Begin Next Week, Cochran Says

Now that the Georgia Governor’s race has been put to bed, work is underway at county registrar offices around the state to get ready for two statewide run-off elections on December 4th.

Voters must decide on a new Secretary of State and on a Public Service Commissioner.

Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran said Monday he and his staff will be working all week to get run-off ballots ready.

“I will receive the data files from the State today. I will then proof the files and send them back to the State. And then they will send it to my printer. My printer will work over the holiday to get them done. We hope to have them in hand by Friday; Saturday by the latest. I have a crew coming in over the holiday to get the (run-off early) ballots in the mail. And then we will start early voting the Monday after Thanksgiving,” Cochran explained.

Meantime, early voting for the House District 28 Special Primary race is going well, according to Cochran.

On Monday, Cochran said over 200 people have cast early ballots in that race.

“We’ve had 266 as of Monday morning,” he said. “This is our sixth day. I received about 25 back that we mailed out for Absentee by Mail.”

And as a reminder, the November 6th run-off elections and the House District 28 Special Primary are two separate races with two separate ballots.

So beginning next week, if you go to vote early, you will have to indicate to the Registrar which races you want to cast ballots in.

Additionally, only those who were registered to vote by last April and voted either Republican or Independent, did not move out of the 28th District and have not committed a felony since the May Primary are eligble to vote in the Special Primary election.
