Early voting continues in Toccoa-Stephens County

The Early voting period began on Monday in Toccoa-Stephens County.

According to Stephens County Registrar Eureka Gober the first two days of early voting brought out 113 residents to cast an early ballot.

She says early voting will run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. until Friday, August 7, at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office, located inside the Stephens County Historical Courthouse.

Unlike the past election, this advance voting period will not offer Saturday voting.

Gober says the Registrar’s Office will continue to make use of the same preventative measures that were taken during the most recent election to combat the spread of COVID-19.

There are no local run-offs in Stephens County, but voters in Stephens County will be voting in the State House District 50 run-off between Republicans Bo Hatchett and Stacy Hall.

Voters will also be choosing candidates in both a Republican and Democratic run-off for the U.S. House of Representatives District 9 race to replace Congressman Doug Collins, who is running in the November election to fill the unexpired term of Senator Johnny Isakson who retired last December.

On the Republican side, voters will choose between Gainesville businessman Andrew Clyde and State Representative Matt Gurtler.

On the Democratic side, voters will decide between Brooke Siskin and Devin Pandy.

Additionally, Gober says anyone who would like to vote by absentee ballot can still request an application for one.

All absentee ballots are due back to the Registrar’s Office no later than 7 p.m., August 11.

The Primary Runoff Election will be held on Tuesday, August 11, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Stephens County Senior Center.
