Early morning wreck on I-85 kills one, injures two others

Traffic is flowing again on I-85 SB after a fatal wreck Wednesday morning involving a tractor trailer and a box truck.

It happened just after 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to a preliminary report from the Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post.

The report states a tractor-trailer was broken down at mile marker 172 on 85 SB and parked in the west side emergency lane.

The driver of a box truck traveling south on 85 failed to maintain his lane and traveled off the west side of the roadway striking the left rear of the tractor-trailer with its right front fender.

A passenger in the box truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other injuries were reported, and they were transported to a local hospital.

No word yet on the identity of the person who was killed or the driver, and no word on the condition of the two survivors.

Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting the  troopers with the Hartwell Post in investigating the wreck.

Meantime, multiple other accidents were reported following the fatal wreck.
