Eagles Pick Up First Region Win at Stephens

East Jackson senior right-hander Dylan Varner tossed a complete game, limiting the Stephens County Indians to just five hits as the Eagles edged the Indians 5-4 at the Reservation Tuesday night. The win for East Jackson was their first region 8-AAA victory. The Indians have now dropped three region games in a row, now sitting at 1-6.

After East Jackson scored a run in the top of the first inning, the Indians picked up three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Carson Worley singled and Ayden Garmon was hit by a pitch. Ben Stowe doubled home both runners and Garrett Burgess drove Stowe home with a single.

East Jackson took the lead in the third inning on two singles, two walks and a sacrifice fly, plating four runs. Varner limited the Indians to just one more run on two errors and a sacrifice fly by Garrett Pless in the sixth.

The Eagles pitcher struck out three and was helped out numerous times by outstanding defensive plays by his teammates.

Cruz Mullinix took the loss, pitching three innings, giving up five runs, striking out five and walking two. Ayden Garmen finished up the game, going the final four, giving up just one hit and striking out four.

The loss brings the Indians record to 6-12 overall and 1-6 in region play .East Jackson is now 4-13 and 1-6 in region action.

The two teams are scheduled for a double-header Friday at East Jackson, Game time is set for 5PM and broadcast time on WNEG Radio will be 4:45PM.
