E. Currahee St. fire damages building, Thursday

Shortly before 7 p.m. last night, Toccoa firefighters responded to a structure fire on E. Currahee Street, near the intersection of Big A Road, directly across from Family Pride Mini-Storage and car wash.

According to officials, firefighters discovered the fire to have started inside the building that at one time was thought to be the future home of Stephens County Special Olympics office, located at 725 East Currahee Street.

Fire fighters and law enforcement officials shut down the entire stretch of road, due to fire hoses and other equipment.

As of this report, the cause of the fire has not been released.
