Drive to Collect Cleaning Supplies for Hurricane Harvey Victims Going Well

Efforts by a local grocery chain and ministry to carry a truckload of cleaning and other supplies to hurricane victims in Houston is receiving a lot of support from the community.

Steve Paysen with P230 Ministries in Toccoa is working with Quality Foods Manager Richard Burton to fill a tractor-trailer with buckets full of cleaning supplies.

Paysen says just a week since the campaign began they’ve already collected dozens of buckets and other donations.

“I think we’ve already seen at least 400 buckets purchased,” Paysen said. “That number changes every day. We’ve had several contributions come in to help us with the bleach and water pallets as well. There’s a lot more work to do, but things are going well.”

Paysen said last week, Burton is filling buckets from Home Depot with cleaning supplies so when people in Houston return to their damaged homes, they will have supplies to begin the arduous task of clean up and repairs.

People are being asked to purchase a bucket for $10.

So far, Paysen said the truck is about 60% full.

He says other donations are also needed, such as pallets of bottled water and tools to help with clean up and repairs, such as push brooms, flathead shovels and other new or used building equipment.

“Also, the Sheriff’s Department is partnering with us to get up a collection of push brooms and flat shovels for the clean up process. They are working with Adams Building Supplies. Adams is coming up with a combination at a certain price. Also, good used equipment if anyone has it to donate is welcome.”

The truck will heading out to a church in Houston on September 23.

It will also be parked at the Indians/Bulldogs game the night before if anyone wants to donate cleaning items, water or tools.

According to Paysen, plans are also in the works to send down construction teams to Houston to help with the rebuilding.
