Dr. Paul Shaw of Stephens County was presented the annual “Fulbright” Distinguished Service Award at the recent Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL) conference held July 14-17 at Jekyll Island.

The award is presented annually to a GAEL member who has shown significant achievement in the field of educational leadership and who has made important contributions to GAEL.

The honor goes to individuals who personify the leadership qualities modeled by GAEL’s first president and executive director, Dr. H.M. Fulbright.

State Rep. Chris Erwin, who had attended the conference, said he was proud of Shaw.

“I am proud of one of our Stephens County residents, Dr. Paul Shaw, for being awarded this honor by the public educators of our state. Gov. Brian Kemp and Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan spoke just prior to Dr. Shaw receiving this award. Dr. Shaw, we are proud of you,” Erwin said.

Paul and his wife, Cindy, have resided on Lake Hartwell in Stephens County for the last six years.
