DPS reports 18 fatalities during Labor Day weekend

The Georgia Department of Public Safety has announced that 18 people died on Georgia roads during the Labor Day Holiday Travel Period.

The Labor Day holiday travel period ended Monday night at 11:59 p.m. after 78-hours.

Nine of the fatalities occurred between 6 p.m. Sunday, September 6, and 6 a.m. Monday, September 7.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety the death toll for the 2020 Labor Day weekend is nearly double those from 2019.

In 2019, 10 people died in Labor Day holiday crashes in Georgia.
