DPH Reports Death and Significant Rise in Covid Cases in Stephens Tuesday Afternoon

On Tuesday, the Georgia Department of Public Health reported a 6th death in Stephens County due to complications of Covid-19, and a total of 182 confirmed positive cases of the virus.

That marked one of the largest jumps in cases in Stephens County reported in a 24-hour period. On Monday, DPH was reporting a total of 165 cases in Stephens County.

The latest death is believed to be a 67-year old male.

Wednesday’s totals showed 184 confirmed cases in Stephens County.

In other area counties, Habersham County is reported to have had a total of 647 confirmed cases and 35 deaths due to the virus, Franklin County has had 168 cases and one death, Rabun County has had 40 cases and 3 deaths, Banks County has had 122 cases, and Hart County 52 cases.

Locally, at Stephens County Hospital, staff have tested 1,698 individuals for the virus. Of those, 185 tests have come back positive with 135 patients receiving positive results, 1,457 received negative results, and 56 individuals are still awaiting their results.

According to hospital staff, of those 135 who have tested positive at Stephens County Hospital and its facilities, 113 have now fully recovered from COVID-19.

Across the state of Georgia, the Department of Public Health is reporting a total of 69,381 cases, of those, 10,313 have been hospitalized and 2,698 have died from complications of the virus.
