DPH reports 40 COVID-19 Cases in Stephens County during last 2 week period

As the world continues to experience a surge in COVID-19 cases, Stephens County is also experiencing a slight surge in cases.

Statnews.com reports the month of July has seen COVID-19 cases in the United States increase at the fastest pace since last winter, marking the start of the latest wave of infections to afflict the nation.

Here locally, the Department of Public Health is reporting 3,091 confirmed cases in Stephens County, since the start of the pandemic, just 29 cases more since WNEG’s report on Wednesday, July 28, and 80 total COVID-related deaths, the same as July 28.

In the last two weeks, ending August 3, the DPH reports a total of 40 new cases in Stephens County.

For surrounding counties, Habersham County has 76 new cases in the last 2 weeks, Rabun County has 26, Banks County has 43, Franklin County 34, and Hart County has 42 new cases.

In Georgia, the DPH is reporting 942,887 total cases, an increase of 20,000 since WNEG’s last report. The DPH also reports an increase of 75 deaths since WNEG’s report last week, bringing the total to 18,750 confirmed COVID-related deaths.

In a recent report by statnews.com, Georgia ranked 16th out of the 50 states for COVID-19 case acceleration. The report listed Louisiana as the state with the fastest COVID-19 case acceleration rate.
