District 2 Public Health administers over 250k COVID vaccines

District 2 Public Health has administered over 250,000 COVID-19 vaccines, since vaccines became available in January 2021.

According to District 2 Public Health Public Information Officer Natasha Young, this week, much of the district saw a one percent increase in vaccinations of both the fully vaccinated and individuals receiving their first dose.

In Stephens County, there has been a total of 17,749 vaccines administered, with 37 percent of residents receiving their first dose and 33 percent of residents reported as fully vaccinated.

The Department of Public Health reports 3,327 total COVID cases since the beginning of the pandemic, an increase of 130 since WNEG’s report last week.

The death count for Stephens County; however, remains at 80.

In the last two weeks, ending August 23, the DPH is reporting 194 new cases of COVID-19 in Stephens County.

For surrounding counties, Habersham County has 263 new cases in the last 2 weeks, Rabun County has 46, Banks County has 125, Franklin County 148, and Hart County has 105 new cases.

In Georgia, the DPH is reporting 1,036,304 total cases, an increase of 53,715 since WNEG’s report last week. The DPH also reports an increase of 256 deaths since WNEG’s report last week, bringing the total to 19,243 confirmed COVID-related deaths across the state of Georgia.

Additionally, District 2 Public Health will open two drive-through COVID testing sites this week.

According to Young, the two new testing sites will be located in Lumpkin and Franklin counties.

She says the sites will be located in the two counties health departments.

The Franklin County site will open today, while the Lumpkin County site will open on Thursday, August 26.
