Dawsonville man arrested by Toccoa Police

The Toccoa Police recently arrested a Dawsonville man after he gave officers a fake name during a traffic stop.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, on February 17, the Toccoa Police Department Traffic Unit’s Tag Reader got a hit on an expired tag in the area of Tugalo and Prather Bridge Road.

As the Police Department Unit activated his lights on Prather Bridge Road, the driver was reaching around in the floor acting suspicious.

A second patrol unit was requested for back up.

The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Tony Croy, gave officers a fake name.

Following a search of the vehicle, Croy was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license, no insurance, expired tag and giving false name and date of birth to law enforcement.

Police also found a large quantity of methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Croy was also charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drug related objects.

He was transported to the Stephens County Jail.

Croy’s passenger was released at the scene.
