Dates and details announced for Toccoa elections in November.

The Stephens County Board of Registrars and Elections met yesterday, July 18, for the regular quarterly meeting.

During the meeting, updates were provided regarding the upcoming Toccoa and Martin elections.

Election Supervisor Bruce Carlisle said there would be two elections for the City of Toccoa, running simultaneously, with candidate qualifying running $300 per position and scheduled for August 21, 22nd and 23rd.

Although the county registration and elections office is managing the city’s elections through a Memorandum of Understanding with the city, Carlisle said any questions regarding qualifying should be addressed to City Clerk Freda Wheeler.

Carlisle said the voter registration deadline for the City elections is in early October.

He then outlined the process for requesting absentee ballots, and mentioned absentee ballot procedures in place specifically for seniors, and explained that citizens do not need to give a reason for requesting an absentee ballot.

Carlisle said there will also be an election this year for the town of Martin, to elect two city council members and a mayor, but said that they have not received detailed information on schedules for that election from the town of Martin. He did say that early voting for both the city of Toccoa elections and the town of Martin elections would take place in the Historic Stephens County Courthouse beginning October 16 and running through October 28.

He explained that election day voting on Nov. 7 for the city of Toccoa elections will be held at Toccoa City Hall, and the town of Martin elections would take place at the Martin Community Center.

Carlisle confirmed that voters will need to bring ID to vote in early in-person voting, or to vote on election day.
