Date set for next SPLOST VII discussion

The next intergovernmental meeting to discuss SPLOST VII has been scheduled for June 10.

The meeting, originally scheduled for this past Monday, had been canceled due to overlapping budget talks with the Stephens County Board of Commissioners.

With the makeup date set, officials with Stephens County, the City of Toccoa, Avalon, and the Town of Martin will come together to continue their SPLOST VII discussions.

The public meeting will be held at the Toccoa City Hall inside the conference room at 5:30 p.m.

Collections of the one-cent sales tax will go into effect on July 1, 2020 but voters must approve the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax via a special referendum in November.

If approved, the County and municipalities will begin receiving revenue from SPLOST VII in January 2021.
