Currahee Military Weekend – Thursday & Friday events

As reported yesterday, The 2023 Currahee Military Weekend takes place this coming weekend, with events kicking off Thursday with two public screenings of the documentary film, The Girl Who Wore Freedom. 

Brenda Carlan, Executive Director at the Currahee Military Museum and Camp Toccoa at Currahee, said the movie is worth seeing.

On Thursday, Currahee Military Weekend registration will also be available from 1-5 p.m. at the Currahee Military Museum. 

On Friday, registration will continue at the Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, the Chamber of Commerce Chicken BBQ lunch will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. There will be a Memorabilia Show at 59 Doyle Street from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, a book signing for “WWII & More on Paper” will be held at the Museum. Carlan said the book signings are a popular attraction at each year’s event. 

And at 7 p.m. the USO Swing Dance will begin in Downtown Toccoa on Doyle Street, sponsored by the VFW. Everyone is invited to attend the free event. 

Carlan said she is excited about the Swing Dance being held outside this year.
