Currahee Military Museum and Historical Society Need Volunteers

The Stephens County Historical Society is looking for a few good men and women to become volunteers.

Today, they will be holding several volunteer orientation sessions at the museum in the Toccoa Train Depot for anyone interested volunteering.

Currahee Military Museum Executive Director Brenda Carlin says they have had some volunteers resign over the past year and they are looking for new help in a number of areas.

“We’ve had a lot of volunteers retire this past year,” she said. “So, we’re looking for more volunteers that may have an interest in working in the lobby, becoming tour guides, doing research and other areas.”

Carlin said they could also use volunteers during the Currahee Military Weekend in the fall and with their two annual Currahee runs.

If you are interested in volunteering or getting more information you can come by the Museum today one of three different times for an orientation session, according to Carlin.

“The first on is at 10a at the Mitchell Allen meeting room. The second is at 1p and if we have more interest there will be a third one tonight at 7p,” Carlin said. “It takes about an hour and a half. We go over the history, what we do, what we have and take any questions if people have them as well.”

If you can’t make it to one of the three orientation sessions today, you can still volunteer.
