County and City to Enter into Intergovernmental Agreement for Road Work

Stephens County Commissioners approve an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Toccoa for road work on 26 city streets.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said that she and other employees have walked these roads to see what the city wants done and each street needs different work.

Ayers said the only cost to the county is the material cost.

Included in the agreement is the responsibilities for both the city and county.

“So that we can keep our mowing crews going, we’re not taking every head out of that department to do this,” said Ayers. “We will only do the pavement work, we won’t do the flagging or all those things under city responsibility. We won’t do the striping or milling.”

This work is estimated to take about six weeks and Ayers said the plan is to integrate it inside the work being done on county roads.

This agreement will help save costs for both the city and county.
