Corps of Engineers Opens Day Use Areas This Week

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Hartwell Lake Office will be opening a number of day-use and recreation areas around Lake Hartwell this week.

On Tuesday, May1st, the Paynes Creek and Georgia River campgrounds in Hart County will be open on the Georgia side.

On the South Carolina side, the Corps will open the Coneross and Oconee Point campgrounds in Oconee County, SC.

In addition to the campgrounds, a number of day-use areas will open next week.

They include, the Poplar Springs Day-Use Area, off Gumlog Road in Franklin County, and the
Elrod Ferry Day-Use Area in Hart County.

Day-use areas areas provide picnic shelters, picnic sites, restroom facilities, playgrounds, swim beaches and boat ramps with courtesy dock and security lighting.

And beginning today, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Hartwell Lake Project Office will begin construction of an additional parking area a popular recreation area in Anderson County.

Construction will begin to expand parking for boat trailers and vehicles at the Broyles Recreation Area in Anderson County, South Carolina.

Work there is expected to be done by July 1st.

The area will remain open for public use during the duration of the project.
