The Toccoa Police Department recently added a new detective into its Detectives Division; though no stranger to the department, Corporal David Cannon, the former Assistant Shift Supervisor, is getting settled into his new role.

The Toccoa Police Department’s Interim Police Chief Jimmy Mize told WNEG News about the promotion.

“We’ll be moving Corporal David Cannon to the Detectives Division. He had worked several cases when he worked for the Department of Natural Resources on the Law Enforcement side,” he said.

Mize added that he is confident in Cannon’s ability to excel in his new role.

“I really think he’ll be an asset to our team of detectives,” Mize said.

Cannon came to the Police Department from the Department of Natural Resources in 2014.

He worked as a night-shift patrolman, until October of 2015, when he was promoted to Corporal and became the Assistant Shift Supervisor.

In January, 2018, the Police Department began conducting interviews for a position in the detective division.

After a comprehensive written and oral exam, Cannon was chosen for the position and began his transition into being a detective.

Since being selected, Cannon has completed the required 6-week field training, and has started working cases.
