Cornelia man arrested after attempting to break into a Toccoa residence

A Cornelia man is behind bars after attempting to break in a Toccoa residence.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 194 Sunset Lane.

He says officers were dispatched to the residence in reference to a home invasion with shots fired.

Upon the arrival of officers, the occupants said a suspect, later identified as Cedric Holden, had kicked the door in and tried to force his way into the residence; however, one occupant, Ladonvan Crawford, noticed a weapon on the intruder’s side and punched him in the face and got the door shut.

After shutting the door, the occupants heard shots being fired outside the home.

Officers were given a description of the suspect’s vehicle, and later were able to initiate a traffic stop at Collins Road and Pond Street where they located the weapon.

Holden, 31, of Cornelia, was arrested and charged with home invasion, aggravated assault and criminal trespass.

He was taken to the Stephens County Jail.
