Cleveland man identified as victim fatally struck by train in Habersham County

A Cleveland man whose body was found in Mt. Airy alongside the railroad tracks has been identified.

According to the Habersham County Coroner’s Office the man has been identified as 33-year-old Cleveland resident Andrew Dylan Claborn.

Assistant Habersham County Coroner Ken Franklin tells WNEG News that Claborn was hit by a train on Friday, May 29.

Franklin adds that the victim had died several hours before being spotted by a Norfolk Southern Railroad employee.

Law enforcement from the Mt. Airy Police Department and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office responded to the railroad tracks near State Route 13 and Dicks Hill Parkway Bridge.

Franklin says Claborn is believed to have died sometime between 2 and 6 a.m. on Friday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Scene Unit and the Habersham County Coroner’s Office were called to assist with the investigation.

Authorities asked Norfolk Southern Police to halt train traffic while they searched for evidence and took photos.

Claborn’s family was notified by authorities and his body was transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur for an autopsy.

Mt. Airy Police Chief Tim Jarrell says no foul play is suspected.

The investigation continues.
