City Prepares for FY20 Budget, Approves Municipal Election Schedule

The City of Toccoa is getting ready to start their budget planning process for Fiscal 2020.

At their meeting Monday night, City Commissioners approved the budget calendar.

City Manager Billy Morse says there are a number of steps to go through to prepare the next City budget.

“The department heads will put their budgets together in February. Then in March the Finance Director and I will consolidate them. April, the City Commission will meet with the department heads. Then, in May we will have two public hearings before approving the budget, which will take effect July 1,” Morse explained

Toccoa’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.

In other business, City Commissioners also approved an Ordinance to hold municipal elections in November.

Three City Commission seats will up for grabs according to Morse.

“That’s an ordinance that deals with all aspects of the municipal election,” he said. “The qualifying period begins at 8:30a on August 19 and continues through normal business  hours on August 21,” Morse said. “Posts 1,2, and 4 are open. That’s Gail Fry, Terry Carter and David Austin.”

City Commissioners serve a four-year term. Morse said the qualifying fee is $330.

The Municipal election takes place November 5.
