City of Toccoa’s Walking Trail at the Lake Toccoa Recreation Facilities dedicated with Ribbon Tying

The Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon tying ceremony for the dedication of the City of Toccoa’s Walking Trail at the Lake Toccoa Recreation Facilities on Thursday.

According to Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce President Julie Paysen, a ribbon tying ceremony symbolizes a community coming around a local business in support of the services it provides.

Toccoa Mayor Evan Hellenga says the Walking Trail at the Lake Toccoa Recreation Facilities has been in the works since 2015.

“The vision and plan for the development of the Walking Trail go back to 2015, when the City of Toccoa developed the Lake Toccoa master plan. At that time, the City decided to establish this property as a beautiful recreation area, available for the enjoyment of all citizens of Toccoa and Stephens County. Over the past few years, the Links Golf Course has been revitalised, Reflections has been renovated to a much sought-after events facility, the pro shop building has been returned to its historic World War II appearance and is also home to Ping’s Restaurant, a new boat house and pavilion have also been added. The seven tenths mile recreation trail has been added to the existing facilities. Today the vision becomes the reality of that dream of a walking trail that everyone can use,” he said.

Toccoa City Commissioner Gail Fry explained that she and Commissioner Terry Carter approached City Manager Billy Morse with the plan to create a walking trail.

Stephens County Development Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Brittany Ivey says the walking trail will be attractive for new industries considering coming to Toccoa-Stephens County.

Main Street Toccoa Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby says the walking trail will be a success if the community uses it.

Paysen says having Toccoa’s leadership invested in making Toccoa a great place to live is important.

The new Walking Trail at the Lake Toccoa Recreation Facilities is located at 201 Black Mountain Road, in Toccoa.
