City of Toccoa taking steps to prevent spread of coronavirus

The City of Toccoa is taking steps to ensure its employees remain healthy, so that vital utility and public safety services can continue.

According to City Manager Billy Morse, the health and well-being of their employees, citizens, and customers is their highest priority, and they are committed to providing essential services and maintaining public safety.

Morse says they are monitoring the outbreak of the coronavirus closely to ensure that service delivery continues uninterrupted.

At this time, there are no known cases of COVID-19 in Stephens County; however, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) continues to emphasize the importance of personal steps to protect yourself including frequent hand-washing, avoiding contact with those that are sick, and staying home if you become sick.

At this time, the City will be implementing the following safety measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus:

Municipal Court has been cancelled through April 13 and all cases will be rescheduled.

All Downtown and Ritz Theatre Events for March and April are cancelled.

Ping’s Grill will be closed for two weeks.

No utility disconnects for non-pay for the next 30 days.

Customers are encouraged to pay their utility bills using a variety of options without having to come inside City Hall; options include using the drive-through, drop box, automatic draft, on-line bill pay and automatic phone service.

Toccoa Mayor Terry Carter says each day brings more information and new challenges, and the City wants to make sure it’s protecting the health, safety and well-being of the community.
